Equine assisted physical therapy is a program for children ages 2 and older with movement and sensory dysfunction. The patient receives physical therapy treatment on the ground and while mounted on the horse. The horse provides a consistent and rhythmic movement pattern that simulates the pelvic/trunk movement of the human gait that helps improve:
- Trunk mobility and strength
- Postural strength and endurance
- Proprioception
- Weight bearing
- Motor planning
- Sensory integration
